New commercial lead appointed to PET’s European operations

Phoslock Environmental Technologies (ASX:PET) has announced a new Commercial Lead for its European operations, with Damian Whelan to commence with the company on 1 September 2021, based in the UK.

This new appointment represents a significant step towards strengthening PET’s presence and expanding opportunities in Europe. It also complements the appointment of Derek Johnson, in July 2021, as a new project manager for the company’s European operations, based at Wiesbaden in Germany.

Damian has more than 25 years’ experience within the utilities sector (water, wastewater, environment) in the UK and internationally, covering municipal and non-municipal markets. He has a strong managerial background at senior leadership levels; his most recent position was Head of Industry – Water at Bilfinger UK Limited.

Prior to this, Damian held senior positions at several water engineering services and technology companies including Xylem Water Solutions, MultiTrode, Germanischer Lloyd (DNV) and with Evides Industry Water.

Damian will partly replace Nigel Traill’s responsibilities as General Manager for International Sales following Nigel’s recent departure become CEO of Limnological Solutions International, a scientific consultancy which undertakes lake restoration projects in Europe and has extensive experience using Phoslock®. As such, LSI are ideally positioned to support PET with its projects worldwide and continue to provide scientific and technical advisory services.

PET’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Lachlan McKinnon said he was disappointed to see Nigel’s departure but delighted by the high calibre of his replacement.

“While we are of course sad to see Nigel leave, I am thrilled that he will continue his association with the company through the role with LSI, and delighted by the appointment of Damian.

“Nigel was with us since 2000, opening the European office in 2005 and was responsible for developing Phoslock opportunities regionally. He also established our network of international licensees and introduced our technology to a worldwide network of scientists, which has resulted in the publication of more than 100 peer-reviewed papers.

“With Damian now joining us, the strength and experience he brings to our European business will ensure we continue to perform strongly.”

Damian commented, “I am excited to be taking on this role with PET; I believe Phoslock has such an exciting future in Europe as well as in our other key international markets through our leading technologies and services.

“The recent securing of the Kralingse Plas project, as well as upcoming projects in Denmark and other countries across Europe, means I am joining the company at a great time.

“I look forward to continuing success, working closely with stakeholders and clients to expand the European pipeline further and continue to improve water quality worldwide.”
