[Webinar] Phosphorus pollution control: insights into Phoslock applications

Phosphorus Pollution Control: insights into Phoslock applications. Nutrient pollution is a complex, global problem that can cause undesirable changes to aquatic systems. Even following successful catchment management, phosphorus can be retained within waterbodies and cycled from the bed sediments to overlying waters (internal loading) to facilitate continued poor water quality that can delay recovery for potentially decades.

Continued poor water quality leads to the deterioration of lake structure and function and ultimately leads to biodiversity loss. In-lake remediation measures such as Lanthanum-modified bentonite (Phoslock) has been used to aid quicker recovery times in lakes suffering from internal loading, by reducing water column phosphorus concentrations and reducing the amount of phosphorus released from lake-bed sediments.

In this webinar, Smart Water Magazine and Phoslock join forces to present the global challenges faced by water managers: we will discuss how Phoslock works, what is involved in dose calculations, application techniques and the ecotoxicological profile of Phoslock. We will also draw on multiple Phoslock applications around the globe to show the versatility, effectiveness, longevity and wider ecological benefits of using Phoslock in comparison to other in-lake measures.

Results will be discussed from whole lake applications in Finland, The Netherlands, Germany and the U.K., whereby water quality was significantly improved as a result of treatment.
